Cases of walking pneumonia in children are on the rise across the country, according to the CDC - and Long Island hasn’t been spared.

Dr. John Zaso, a pediatrician with an office in East Meadow, estimates he’s seen an increase in cases of about 15% to 20%.

He said in the last month, there’s been a “significant uptick.”

Signs of walking pneumonia include a persistent cough, fever and rash.

If there’s difficulty breathing, medical attention should be sought right away.
