Walk through history on the Bronx's Old Croton Aqueduct Trail
News 12's Elly Morillo spoke with New York City Parks' first deputy commissioner about the scenic Croton Aqueduct route in Morris Heights.

The Old Croton Aqueduct water system was built between 1837 and 1842, bringing the first direct water supply to the Bronx. Now, it's a scenic trail that sits on the historic pathway with a window into nearly 5 acres of nature.
"There are 12 scenic landmarks throughout the city. But here, this is the very first one in the borough of the Bronx," says Iris Rodriguez-Rosa, the first deputy commissioner of NYC Parks. "So, we're very excited that the landmarks commission saw fit to be able to name this as a scenic landmark here in the borough."
Along the way, visitors can enjoy such as a playground and a basketball court, which have received major upgrades throughout the years.
"It's not only just a wonderful walk that we have. There's also activities for the community to be able to enjoy with - our playgrounds and our basketball courts and things of that nature," Rodriguez-Rosa adds.
Rodriguez-Rosa says the Croton Aqueduct pathway highlights the rich history of the Bronx dating back to the 1800s.
