Hundreds of mourners paid their respects at the wake of Nassau County Police Officer Patricia Espinosa on Wednesday in Saint James.

Espinosa was killed Saturday morning while on her way to work. The 20-year-old who struck her was allegedly drunk behind the wheel.

Espinosa worked in the Fifth Precinct in Elmont. Among the mourners was Legislator Carrié Solages, who said he knew Espinosa.

“She was a community person. That’s who she was, and this is very tragic. What makes this even more tragic is that she died on her way to serve Elmont, our community. She died as a servant," said Solages.

Espinosa’s funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Saint Patrick’s Church in Smithtown.
