Gov. Kathy Hochul and Shirley Rep. Lee Zeldin went head-to-head in the first and likely only debate in the New York governor race on Tuesday.
The candidates spoke about issues including the economy, abortion rights and public safety.
The Republican challenger argued that cashless bail and the Halt Act need to be repealed.
The Democratic incumbent said the state has to continue getting guns out of the hands of young people and those who are severely mentally ill.
Early voting starts for the race starts on Oct. 29 and Election Day is Nov. 8.
