For the past 20 years, a Democrat has held the office of Suffolk County district attorney.
Democrat incumbent Tim Sini is hoping that streak continue.
“We’re running on our record, which is reforming the district attorney’s office, decreasing crime each and every year, including decimating the violent street gang MS-13, ” Sini says.
Opponent Ray Tierney says Sini exaggerates his accomplishments.
Tierney is not affiliated with any party but is running on the Republican and Conservative lines. He is a former prosecutor in Suffolk County and Brooklyn and was also a federal prosecutor.
“I’ve been a gang prosecutor my entire life,” Tierney says. “I have 50 separate convictions on MS-13 murders—50 separate murders—that occurred on Long Island.”
He says Sini has never prosecuted an MS-13 case, but Sini says that’s untrue.
Sini says there have been 96 indictments in Suffolk County and that they have stopped murders from happening.
Tierney says Sini is too focused on getting media attention and that he would bring more professionalism to the job.
Democrats are hoping for their sixth consecutive Election Day victory for district attorney in Suffolk County. Republicans are trying to take back the office for the first time since 2001.
