There are resources available, including virtual options, to help parents of young girls struggling to cope with all that's going on in the world right now.
Executive director of Girls Inc. of Long Island Renee Flager says girls need guidance and support now more than ever. She says girls feel isolated, they have lost connections and the ability to socialize.
Flager says Girls Inc. of Long Island is committed to doing virtual programming because it's discovered that some young girls are actually having a harder time than they initially thought. She adds the organization creates a connection and a space for them, so that they can come together with other like-minded girls and normalize some aspects of their lives.
Flager explains that the organization tries to recreate the Girls Inc. environment in the virtual experience. She says it's a safe mentoring space where they bridge learning gaps, everyone learns together, and they create a sisterhood and build up self-confidence. The girls are also encouraged to be strong, smart and bold.
Additionally, the girls also go through different curriculums, with some days focusing on financial literacy, STEM projects and advocacy.
