A Suffolk village is planning a permanent memorial for residents who died in the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

The new memorial will be built overlooking the Great South Bay in Patchogue.

There is currently a small 9/11 monument at Shorefront Park with plaques and benches for the Patchogue residents who died that day.

Patchogue officials say they plan on closing the current monument at Shorefront Park and having one large memorial off of Cedar Avenue.

Patchogue Planning Commissioner Lori Devlin says the $200,000 project will be built on the empty lot where a house used to stand. The house had been torn down after sustaining damage during Superstorm Sandy.

Construction is set to begin in June. It is expected to be completed in time for this year's anniversary of the attacks.
