A person suffered second- and third-degree burns during a house fire in Lindenhurst late Tuesday.
The incident began around 10:37 p.m. in the home at 101 Surf Road.
Video taken from the scene showed the home engulfed by massive flames as firefighters battled from both inside and outside of the residence.
The homeowner suffered the severe burns to his hands, arms, chest and the side of his face.
Neighbor and friend Gary Barash says despite the pain the homeowner was in, he could only think of saving his dogs and cats.
"He kept wanting to go back inside in the house," Barash said. "Police officers tried to hold him back, I'm telling him he needs to go into the ambulance, but he kept trying to get back into the house to find his cat."
The homeowner was taken to Nassau University Medical Center.
Three of his dogs also survived the fire - two were taken to a local emergency animal hospital.
Neighbors searched the property for the homeowner's missing cat but have not found it as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.
They say the homeowner will remain in the hospital for the next few days and may need surgery.
Two firefighters were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and New 12 is told they are now doing well.
