Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) hosted a Veterans Day ceremony Tuesday in Centereach to award some of the nation's service members.
Several service members were given military service medals earned decades ago. Some were awarded to their families posthumously.
"It is important that for 365 days of the year that we pursue opportunities to say thank you to our vets," says Zeldin, an Iraq war veteran. "Their sacrifice, their willingness to risk everything in defense of our freedoms and liberties is something we honor on Veterans Day."
Afterward, veterans and their families held another ceremony commemorating the end of World War I. Also honored was Armistice Day, which celebrates the armistice signed between the Allied forces and Germany in France.
