The U.S. Postal Service said it expected to handle 611 million pieces of mail.
The Postal Service estimated 5 million people would mail their packages at local post offices and another 7 million would use its website to ship their gifts.
Meanwhile, Tuesday is the deadline to drop off First Class U.S. mail and get it delivered in time for Christmas.
Friday is the last day to ship all FedEx or UPS next day air packages and have them delivered before Christmas. This service requires a paid premium.
