US Coast Guard ship named after LI native

A new United States Coast Guard ship is named after a Long Island native.
The USCGC Clarence Sutphin Jr. was commissioned into service Thursday at Pier 86 in New York City.
Boatswain's Mate First Class Clarence Sutphin grew up in Valley Stream. He went to Central High School.
Sutphin served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1941 to 1945.
The Clarence Sutphin Jr. is the 47th sentinel-class fast-response cutter.
