Two top administrators at Milton L. Olive Middle School in Wyandanch have been placed on modified assignment.
The surprise move comes less than six months after the school dramatically improved its academic rating.
Parents found out Wednesday that the principal and the vice principal were both placed on modified assignment.
The announcement came in a letter to families that said in part, "Please be advised that the middle school principal Dr. Shannon Burton and assistant principal Ms. Kimberly Clinton have been temporarily reassigned."
News 12 interviewed Burton in March.
The school had been classified by the state as academically struggling for nine years — and it was just placed on the good standing list.
The district still has not said why those two administrators were reassigned.
The school board was in a closed executive session for more than an hour Wednesday to discuss the employment of persons and to gather a legal opinion — but the board did not specify who they were discussing.
