Transportation Alternatives: Brooklyn driver named city's top 'super speeder'

The latest report from Transporation Alternatives says a Brooklyn driver has been named New York City’s worst “super speeder,” racking up 560 speeding tickets in 2024 alone — including 70 along Ocean Parkway in Midwood.
This location is just 2 miles away from where a mother and her two children were struck and killed by a driver with over 70 prior violations.
“This speeder is getting a ticket every 17 hours,” said Amber Adler, of Families for Safe Streets. “They can’t even make it through a day without nearly two violations.”
Despite accumulating thousands in fines, some as high as $45,000, the top offenders paid most of them off.
City officials say unpaid tickets result in boots or tows after 75 days.
The Department of Transportation called repeat speeders a danger to all New Yorkers and voiced support for legislation to remove them from the road.
State Sen. Andrew Gounardes proposed a bill to install speed-limiting technology in vehicles of high-risk drivers.
“If you think this doesn’t impact you, it does,” Adler said. “People are dying. You have to stop it now.”
