A water transmission line break in Thomaston has shut down a section of Waterbury Road and launched a multi-day repair effort by Waterbury’s Bureau of Water and construction crews.

The rupture occurred near 901 Waterbury Road, about one mile from the Waterbury line, and involves a 42-inch pipe that is part of Waterbury’s water system. The break is located roughly 50 feet north of the section repaired after the April 24, 2026, transmission line failure.

Crews from the Waterbury Bureau of Water and Dayton Construction are excavating the site and assessing the damage. Officials say no residents or businesses are expected to lose water service, though some customers may have experienced temporary low pressure or discolored water. Anyone noticing discoloration should run their faucets until the water clears.

The break has forced the closure of Waterbury Road in both directions. Thomaston Police report that local detours are in place at West Hill Road and Carter Road, while state detours direct drivers to Route 8 exits 34 and 38 northbound and southbound. The closure is expected to last several days.

Repairs are estimated to take five to seven days. Waterbury officials say they will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as repairs progress.
