A new and much needed traffic light is set to be installed in West Hempstead, according to the community.
Seventh-grader Tomas Molina was hit and killed while crossing Woodfield Road last October.
County Legislator John Giuffre started advocating for the light just hours after the deadly accident.
"Young Tomas tragically died on Oct. 1, which was a Sunday afternoon, Monday I was at the legislature and one of my constituents emailed me and I agreed to go with him that night to the scene of the accident to see what happened,” said Giuffre.
One year before that, 17-year-old Amanda Arguinzoni died in a crash on the same road. According to police, speed was a factor.
The stoplight will be installed at the intersection of Woodfield Road and Lindberg Street.
Construction is set to begin over the summer.
An informational meeting on the light will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall.
