It’s National Pickleball Day! The Town of Islip is recognizing the day by unveiling six new pickleball courts at Broadway Avenue Park.
Town officials say the demand for pickleball was so high, they transformed some of the tennis courts at the Broadway Avenue Park to dedicated pickleball courts.
The courts are equipped with lights so people can play at night.
“We’re really celebrating the fact that we have six brand-new dedicated pickleball courts here so that brings us townwide to 11 pickleball courts and nine dual courts,” says Angie Carpenter, Islip’s town supervisor.
On dual courts, people can play either pickleball or tennis.
The Town of Islip also plans to build new pickleball courts at Casamento Park in Bay Shore over the winter.
