Town of Islip boat owners are upset over new rules in effect at the Atlantique Marina on Fire Island.
Boat owners say the town has instituted a new online reservation system, raised boat slip prices by 14 percent and is allowing non-resident owners to use the marina. Charges for "large" or "A" slip spaces will go up from $396 a week to $452. That charge includes electric service whether owners use it or not.
Boaters are also upset by a rule change that would allow larger vessels to stay docked for the entire season, crowding out smaller boat owners.
Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter says the rules are fair and based on feedback from residents.
The town says the new online reservation system affects only 29 out of the 157 slips available in the marina. It also says that smaller boat slip rentals are actually going down in cost this year.
Residents say they plan to confront the town board about the new regulations at its next meeting on May 24.
