The Town of Hempstead is advising Levittown residents to check their water after a Friday night water main break.
The town says the water is safe to drink but advise any resident who experiences discolored water to run their faucet for five minutes until the water clears.
The town's water department commissioner told News 12 the water main break happened around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Hilltop Road and Azalea Road.
Town crews were able to resolve the issue an hour later. Residents, however, say they have never seen water get so high in their neighborhood.
"It was just gushing out a lot of water. It came up onto the sidewalk, onto the driveway and the cars on the street, the water came up to the door, the height of the door," said resident Harry Mathura.
