An assistant principal at a Mastic Beach school has been hit with fire and building code violations for a home he owns and allegedly rented out to a level 2 sex offender.
Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko calls Robert King a suburban slumlord, ?an assistant principal by day and a slumlord by night." The North Titmus Drive home King co-owns has been condemned, and the owners have been hit with 20 violations.
Lesko says the Mastic home did not have basic utilities like electricity, hot water, heating or cooking. Brookhaven officials say they began their investigation into King and home co-owner Gino Giardini after receiving complaints from neighbors about a sex offender living in the home.
John Foley, who rents an apartment in the house, says he hasn't heard from King in months. Foley says he contacted King once and was threatened King would file aggravated harassment charges if he ever called him again.
King's attorney, however, denies the slumlord claims. In a statement he said, "My client is not a slumlord. He did not rent the premises and never intended to have it rented to a sex offender."
King is the assistant principal at the William Paca Middle School. The school district says King told them he's been trying to evict the tenants at the house since last September. The town says King is ordered to appear in court on Aug. 8.
