Though Tuesday's nor'easter has cleared out, residents are now left with some of the worst coastal flooding since Superstorm Sandy.
The heavy rain turned Garretson Avenue in Islip into a lake. Residents there say the drainage problem needs to be addressed.
The surging ocean around Fire Island beat on sandbags that were put there to protect waterfront homes in Ocean Bay Park. Ferry service resumed at 7 a.m. today after being canceled due to high winds and submerged docks. Several people were stranded yesterday.
Flooding also ruined dozens of bags of toys in the basement of John Theissen Children's Foundation in Wantagh, which collects toys for sick and needy kids.
