Thousands of people took part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Jones Beach on Sunday.
This was the 28th year the walk was held to raise money for treatment. The event was held in 2020, but because of coronavirus concerns, it was changed to a drive-thru experience.
There were still some safety measures in place for Sunday’s event. Masks were recommended for participants who were not vaccinated, and organizers asked anyone who felt sick to stay home.
Organizer Katie Goepfrich Schafer hopes to get the word out about breast cancer screening, which has dropped since the pandemic began.
Sunday's event raised a projected $1.7 million for the American Cancer Society.
