News 12 consumer reporter Janice Lieberman has some tips on how to save money on hotels for summer vacations.

Websites like Kayak and Booking.com are popular resources for people looking to find a reasonably priced place to stay.

Hotel Slash is a new app that offers its members discounted rates in addition to tracking prices for discounts and dips. Membership is free initially, but costs around $30 a year.

Once users decide where they want to go, the site will email several options. If the room rates drop or a better room becomes available, the site will send more notifications.

Hotel Tonight is a website that buys unused rooms from hotels and passes the savings onto users. Users can search for a deal the day they want to leave or many days in advance. However, uncertain travelers are advised to ensure bookings are refundable first.

Hopper allows users to free a price at a hotel and will pay the difference if it rises. However, there is a fee involved. The fee varies on bookings and will be lost if users cancel.

With all of these apps, it is important to check what the cancellation policy is and if hotel loyalty points are available.

Travelers are also advised to book on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, as travel is light and rates can be lower.
