It's time to get kids outside playing, but with which toys? News 12's consumer reporter Janice Lieberman gives us The Real Deal.

Parents will spend around $300 a year, per child, on toys, according to industry insiders. So making that investment count isn't always child's play.

There's nothing like a classic toy, like a ball, to keep your little one active. But toymakers need to entice you to buy the latest and greatest.

"Active play is better than something that's just going to sit there and not do anything and spend a lot of money. Now there are toys for every price point, every budget, especially with outdoor toys. You can spend as little as $10, if you want to go big, you can spend $100. There's something for every budget," Jackie Cucco, senior editor at the Toy Insider, says.

The idea is to keep kids outside and away from the screen.

It's yard sale time, and parents are always selling toys their kids have outgrown. You can buy toys at a fraction of the cost. Ask your friends to pass on what they aren't using anymore. For pricey items and sporting equipment, try Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. Toys can easily be cleaned and brought back to life.
