Firefighters responded to a fire at Wyandanch High School on Friday afternoon.

The call came in just before 2 p.m. Friday.

Fire officials say the fire was knocked down around 2:15 p.m.

The Wyandanch Fire Department responded to the scene with assistance from six mutual-aid departments.

School officials say a TV briefly caught fire during dismissal. The fire was extinguished and contained to only one classroom. No students or staff were injured and the damage appears to be minimal.

It is unclear what caused the fire. The district will be assessing the extent of the damage and ensure the building is safe for students to return on Tuesday.

Dismissal was delayed by 15 minutes due to fire department activity.
