Students and parents in Long Beach are dealing with another school scare.
Police and the school district say a 15-year-old, who attends Long Beach High School, has been charged in the latest incident.
They say he called a bomb threat into the school.
“I’m glad we’re seeing a lot of repercussions for this,” said Dillon Hertzoff, a senior at Long Beach High School.
As News 12 reported, police were also called to Long Beach High School earlier this month, after another threat was phoned in.
“I think it’s terrible. It’s very sad to see the school shut down. Kids are trying to get in, can’t. Parents are trying to drop their kids off; they can’t do that, and every time that happens, parents are probably so afraid that something terrible is happening," said Rich Bickman, a former parent in the school district who lives near the high school.
Long Beach isn’t alone.
As News 12 reported, police say a Uniondale High School student was found with a loaded gun last week, and a teen was charged this week for allegedly threatening to carry out a shooting at East Meadow High School.
Students tell News 12 these threats are taking their toll.
“It’s really scary as a student here to have to hide with threats like these,” said Hertzoff.
News 12 reached out to the Long Beach School District to see if security is being increased or if any other measures are being put in place and is waiting to hear back.
Police say the teen was charged with making a terroristic threat.
He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to return to Nassau County Family Court on Oct. 9.
The following message was sent to the community from Dr. Jennifer Gallagher, superintendent of schools, Long Beach Public Schools:
"Good morning families,
I wanted to let you know that we received word that the police have arrested and charged a 15-year-old male in making the recent phone threat to Long Beach High School. He was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat.
We are grateful for the police department's quick and thorough investigation, and for their ongoing work in ensuring that our community is safe. We also want to thank our students, families, and staff for their patience and support during this time."
