A teen has been arraigned on a charge of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a man in North Amityville.
The prosecutor says an altercation took place inside the Avon Drive home Tuesday between Tephonte Smith, 18, and Rashad Woolridge, 28. It was not immediately clear what the altercation was about.
The prosecutor says Woolridge left the home, then returned and went into the basement with Smith, where gunfire was then heard by relatives.
The prosecutor says it appears Woolridge was shot with a shotgun and was found with a handgun near his body.
The defense attorney for Smith told the judge that the incident may have been self-defense.
Smith's bail was set at $50,000. A second-degree murder charge carries a sentence of 25 years to life.
