The Ryder Cup will bring thousands to our area, and local businesses are expecting a hole in one.
"I think it's great, I think the businesses in the village and the surrounding areas will benefit," said John Kuntzmann, of North Massapequa.
A quarter of a million people will be coming to Farmingdale for the Ryder Cup. The Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce says this will pump millions of dollars into the local economy.
According to the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce, 250,000 attendees are expected to come to the area, bringing in $150 million for all of Long Island. The food and beverage industry in Farmingdale is projected to jump up 20%.
"Obviously, when you bring 250,000 people to the village of Farmingdale and the area around Bethpage State Park that's going to have some growing pains, but we're really excited and I think it's going to be a net positive for everybody," said Joseph Garcia, president of the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce.
A lot of restaurants in the area will be having Ryder Cup watch parties.
The general manager of the Library Cafe in Farmingdale expects a 25% increase in customers.
"We're fully amped up for the crowds, extra bartenders, waiters, waitresses, fully staffed," said Michael Di Troia, general manager of the Library Cafe.
