Five people were taken on a frightening ride Thursday morning when their cab was carjacked.
Police say 24-year-old Christian Paz was drunk when he pushed the driver out of the way, and then stole his packed taxi.
The incident happened at around 2 a.m. at the All Island Yellow Cab stand at the Wantagh Train Station.
Police say the Ronkonkoma man quickly dropped off the passengers after turning the corner, then abandoned the cab on Atlantic Boulevard in Wantagh. They say he fled on foot from there, but didn't get far. Officers caught up with him a few blocks away on Merrick Road in Seaford.
Officials say the 46-year-old driver, the three female passengers and two male passengers all escaped the scenario without injury.
Paz has been charged with DWI, robbery, grand larceny and unlawful imprisonment.
