On the same day Delemo's family and friends said their final goodbyes to the 15-year-old, his accused killer, a 17-year-old boy from Syosset, appeared before a judge.
Delemo was stabbed to death at a West Babylon house party on Monday, Nov. 3, police said. A week after the stabbing, the Syosset teen was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge. He pleaded not guilty. The judge is holding him without bail.
The prosecutor said the defendant showed up to a West Babylon house party with two other people.
Liam’s friend told News 12 they weren’t invited to the party, which was invite-only.
The prosecutor said they were asked to leave, and the defendant allegedly started yelling for people in the party to come outside, including a 14-year-old girl. They said Liam tackled the defendant, who allegedly been threatening partygoers. The defendant pulled out a large knife and stabbed Liam multiple times, the prosecutor said. She said that “tremendous force” was used in the stabbing. Liam's friends said he was a hero. The prosecutor said he died after a minute on the operating table.
Liam's grandfather, Bill Delemo, said he was "numb." He described Liam as a good student who was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Liam's friend Andrew Lombardi said that Liam is now "one of our angels."
