Investigation underway after hateful graffiti found in East Northport
Police say they received two 911 calls on Sunday about the graffiti spray-painted on the front of the former pharmacy.
A swastika and profane language were found painted on an abandoned building in East Northport, according to authorities.
Police say they received two 911 calls on Sunday about the graffiti spray-painted on the front of the former pharmacy on Larkfield Road. They say they are actively investigating the incident.
Alan Mindel, with the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center in Glen Cove, says antisemitism has been on the rise on Long Island and around the world. He says more education is needed, and it starts in the schools.
"Especially on a day like today, being Martin Luther King Day, you would've hoped the world had gotten to a better place, but we have to be honest with ourselves that that's just not the case," he said.
Suffolk police say it's the responsibility of the property owner to clean up the graffiti.
A realtor for the building owner tells News 12 they are working on cleaning it as soon as possible.
