An Inwood man is facing charges for attacking a police officer just days after committing a series of petit larcenies in Nassau County, according to authorities.

Detectives say an investigation led officers to Marvin Mendez Torres, who began to flee when he was spotted Sunday in Inwood.

He was found in the backyard of a residence on Henry Street. Police say he became violent during the arrest and injured an officer.

That officer was hospitalized and is expected to be OK.

Authorities say a glass pipe with white residue was also recovered from the scene.
