According to a statement from Middle Country Central School District Superintendent Dr. Roberta Gerold, the student collapsed after being outside for roughly four minutes during an intramural summer sports program.

"At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with the student and the student's family," the statement said. "The district will provide more information as it becomes available."
Counselors and support staff will be available at Newfield High School Tuesday from 9 a.m. from 12 p.m.
