Police say a Suffolk Transit bus was involved in a multivehicle crash near Exit 59 on the Long Island Expressway Tuesday.
According to Suffolk police, a Pontiac sedan was traveling in the right lane of the westbound LIE in Islandia when the driver attempted to change lanes across the roadway to enter the HOV lane around 1 p.m.
They say his vehicle hit a Chevrolet in the HOV lane, causing the Chevrolet to spin out and crash into the guard rail on the right shoulder.
After witnessing the crash, the driver of a Suffolk Transit bus spun out and struck a pickup truck in the left lane. The pickup then grazed a sedan, according to police.
The crash temporarily closed the westbound LIE.
Officials say the female driver of the Chevrolet was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.
No one else involved was injured.
