Suffolk officials say the county is ending 2018 with a big decrease in crime.
County Executive Steve Bellone on Saturday announced a record-low in crime statistics for the year. He says there was 22.5 percent reduction in violent crime, a 21 percent drop in robberies and a nearly 20 percent reduction in assaults.
"What is really significant about this is that these double-digit decreases in crime are occurring off of already historically low crime levels in Suffolk County," Bellone says.
The county executive went on to thank the police department for all of its work, saying the county is "safer than it has ever been before."
