Suffolk road renamed for ALS champion Chris Pendergast

The Miller Place teacher defied the odds by living with the debilitating disease for 28 years and raised $10 million for research with his annual Ride For Life event.

A street renaming in Miller Place on Monday is honoring the late Chris Pendergast, who made it his life’s mission to raise awareness and funds for ALS research.
Grandview Boulevard was renamed Chris Pendergast Path.

The Miller Place teacher defied the odds by living with the debilitating disease for 28 years and raised $10 million for research with his Ride For Life organization.
Pendergast died last October at age 71. Those inspired by his life's mission will continue his ride on the road for the lives of 30,000 people in the U.S. living with ALS.
Monday also marked ALS Global Recognition Day.
