A Suffolk County police sergeant is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the department.
According to court documents, Sgt. Robert Kall was arraigned on several felony charges for allegedly stealing $7,429 in taxpayer money. Prosecutors say he falsified his time sheet on 12 separate occasions between February 2016 and July 2018.
Kall pleaded not guilty on Tuesday. His family was in the Central Islip courtroom.
Kall has been with the Suffolk Police Department for nearly two decades, has worked in the DWI patrol unit and is currently assigned to the 7th Precinct in Shirley.
Anthony LaPinta, Kall's attorney, claims there is more to the story and that his client will be vindicated.
Kall was allowed to surrender to the district attorney's office Tuesday morning. The office would not release an arrest photo of Kall, citing a new state law.
Suffolk Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart issued a statement saying: "Misconduct of any kind is taken seriously and will not be tolerated in this department. Residents should be assured that our officers are committed to their profession and Kall's conduct is not reflective of the Department's dedication to service."
Kall is suspended without pay.
After arraignment, Kall was released without having to post bail.
