Suffolk police: Man fatally struck on Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge

Detectives say the driver, identified as Nicholas Rogers, was headed east on Veterans Memorial Highway when he hit a man who was trying to cross the street.

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in Hauppauge early Saturday morning, according to Suffolk police.

Detectives say the driver, identified as Nicholas Rogers, was headed east on Veterans Memorial Highway when he hit a man who was trying to cross the street near the intersection of Schoolhouse Lane around 4:50 a.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene

Police are withholding the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.

Rogers was not injured.
