Suffolk County police are investigating after at least one gunshot went off in a West Babylon neighborhood in the middle of the afternoon on Monday.
Investigators said the incident happened in the backyard of a home on Columbus Avenue near Rutgers Road just after 4 p.m.
One witness said she heard a shot and claims she saw three people run out of a home wearing ski masks.
The incident happened in broad daylight.
"I thought that maybe it was a firework because I know there's a lot of fireworks near my house, but I definitely thought it sounded different," West Babylon resident Kristin Ieva said.
There were no injuries or property damage, according to officials.
The incident is still under investigation.
