A Brentwood teenager was arrested Sunday, accused of leaving the scene of a crash that seriously injured a woman in Wyandanch.
The incident began just before 1:30 a.m. after a rear-end collision occurred between a Toyota Camry and Kia Optima at the intersection of Wellwood and Patton avenues.
According to Suffolk police:
“The occupants of the vehicles exited to assess the damage and during that time a 2010 Nissan Rogue traveling westbound on Patton Avenue struck the rear of the stopped Kia and pushed it into the Camry, pinning Meyli Henriquez between the two vehicles at 1:35 a.m. The occupants of the Nissan Rouge all fled the scene on foot.”
Henriquez, 20, of Central Islip, was airlifted to a hospital to be treated for her injuries.
News 12's Carmen Grant's evening report on the Wyandanch hit-and-run crash.
"I think that's horrible the fact that someone would do something like that," says Curtis Arnold, of West Babylon.
Police say they applied tourniquets to both of Henriquez’s legs and airlifted her to Stony Brook University Hospital. Two others were also treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
The 16-year-old was arrested at 1 p.m. Sunday at his home and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash with serious injuries. Police say he was released on a desk appearance ticket and into the custody of his family.
