A Suffolk native and opera singer, who is fresh off the stage at the Metropolitan Opera House, is coming home to Long Island for a special performance.

Wading River native and Riverhead High School graduate Taylor Burgess is hosting a performance for Black History Month at the Jamesport Meeting House.

Burgess just ended a two-month run in the opera "Porgy and Bess."

She tells News 12 she has fond memories of being on stage at the Jamesport Meeting House as a student and felt compelled to celebrate Black History Month back on Long Island.

"It's not your traditional evening concert, but it's definitely dynamic and I think the poetry and the lyrics of the music are very relevant to today, so I think it's something that everyone can relate to," said Burgess.

She says she was inspired to become an opera singer at 14, while in high school, thanks to her voice coach.

The concert is Sunday, Feb. 8, at 5 p.m. in Jamesport.
