Suffolk County fire officials say they responded to a natural gas leak Monday afternoon in Commack.

They say a call came in at 3:29 p.m. for the leak at 85 Old Northport Road, which is where the Town of Smithtown dump is located.

Officials say the tank involved is 500-1,000 gallons but is tapped into the Iroquois Gas Transmission System, a 414-mile pipeline extending from the Canadian border at Waddington, New York, through New York state and western Connecticut, reaching Commack and the Bronx.

Old Northport Road was temporarily closed for police activity related to the incident. Suffolk County police and fire officials say the scene is now clear.
