The Suffolk County’s Sheriff's Office held its sixth consecutive turkey distribution event on Tuesday.
The office, which works with nonprofits to pre-select Long Islanders who need help the most, donated turkeys to 400 families in Yaphank.
"There are a lot of donation bins, blessing boxes throughout our communities,” said Suffolk County office community outreach coordinator Samantha Graviano. “So don't be afraid to go through your pantry, check expiration dates... Anything you have left over from the holidays can be donated to people in need. So we can really share the wealth."
Goya also helped donate 6,000 pounds of food to the cause.
