A flooring contractor from East Islip has pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny for stealing over $90,000 from his customers, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney.
Prosecutors say 40-year-old Leones Martins-Rodrigues, owner of Smart Flooring, received the money from three home builders in eastern Suffolk County from May 2022 to February 2024.
The funds were intended to go toward purchasing and installing hardwood flooring in Southampton and East Hampton.
The work was never performed, according to prosecutors. The 40-year-old later admitted to using the money to pay off his personal debts.
Martins-Rodrigues was arrested on April 8. He is expected to be sentenced Aug. 12, 2027.
