We are in the midst of the most dangerous time of the year for teen drivers, according to officials.

Students Against Drunk Driving in East Islip showcased smashed cars from accidents on the front lawn of the high school to bring awareness to what is called the “100 Deadliest Days.”

Officials say that is when the number of deadly accidents involving teen drivers spikes between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The majority of the victims are New York drivers, officials say.

According to the AAA Foundation Traffic Safety Culture Index, risky driving behaviors like speeding, texting and running red lights are top contributors to unsafe driving among teens.

News 12 has been told the mangled cars will stay on the lawn until after graduation as a reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving.
