Statue of Virgin Mary defaced at Selden church

Police say a statue of the Virgin Mary was found defaced at a Selden church on Thursday.
A parishioner at St. Margaret's of Scotland Church on College Road discovered the damage and reported it to church staff.
Police believe it happened sometime in the past two days.
"The statue has damage to mainly the face of Mary. It appears that is was struck by an unknown object at this time causing damage to the nose, chin and one of the cheeks,” says Detective Sgt. James Brierton.
Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to call Hate Crimes Detectives at 631-852-6323.
