As the first winter storm of the season came through Long Island, Lindenhurst residents woke up to a familiar sight Sunday – flooded streets.
The water was high enough to cover streets in the normal trouble spots south of Montauk Highway.
Luckily, the water receded as the day went on, but many residents expressed some concerns ahead of Tuesday night's storm.
Craig Steinmetz has lived in Lindenhurst for over 20 years. He spent hundreds of thousands of dollars raising his home and his dock after flooding from Superstorm Sandy brought over five feet of water.
He says their block on East Riviera Drive still gets hit with flooding, but he's learned a valuable lesson over the years.
"Don't drive your car because it will wreck your car,” he said. “Slowly, you won't see it, but the undercarriage, the frame, it'll just rot it out. The salt water is just so corrosive."
Steinmetz says he hopes the town will raise the road to prevent the flooding from happening again.
