STORM WATCH: Long Island braces for first coastal storm of the season

WHAT TO KNOW:
  • A coastal storm will impact the island Sunday afternoon through Monday.
  • A freeze is possible in the Pine Barrens out east tonight.
  • Chilly sunshine today and tomorrow.
Coastal Storm Threats
Rain and wind are expected Sunday & Monday, but the severity is still not certain. The threat is growing for this to be an impactful storm.
  • Coastal flooding and beach erosion is possible during high tide Sunday and Monday.
  • 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected, but higher amounts can't be ruled out. We are outlined for a level 2 out 4 risk for flash flooding.
  • Strong winds could produce power outages with gusts over 40 mph expected.
A coastal storm is expected to develop off the southeast coast at the end of this week and move northward close to our area this weekend. Rain and wind are expected on Long Island Sunday and Monday, but the severity is still not certain. However, the threat is growing for this to be an impactful storm that starts on Sunday afternoon and lingers through Monday.

Sunny and cool. High temperatures near 60.
Tonight.
Cold and clear. Freezing temperatures are expected in usual cooler spots out east. Elsewhere, low temperatures will drop to around 40F.
Friday
After a cool start, expect a seasonable day with temperatures in the mid-60s and just a few clouds.
Saturday
Warmer & mostly cloudy. Highs in the upper 60s.
Sunday
Cloudy to start with rain in the afternoon. Winds 10-20 mph early, increasing to 20-30 mph in the evening. Gusts may surpass 40 mph. Heavy rain could produce localized flooding.
Monday
Heavy rain and wind in the morning with showers lingering through the afternoon. Winds 20-30 mph with gusts over 40 mph possible early. Heavy rain could produce localized flooding.
