There will be periods of rain and strong winds continuing until early Friday.
A high wind warning is in effect for both Nassau and Suffolk counties with gusts of up to 50 to 65 mph. It runs from Thursday at 11 p.m. to Friday at 10 a.m.
A total of half an inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain will be on the ground by Friday morning. There is a slight chance of a thunderstorm.
Following the rain, temperatures will fall into the low- to mid-40s for the rest of the day.
It will be a cooler weekend with passing snow showers on Saturday.
Sunday will be sunny and cold with highs near 34 degrees.
The beginning of next week will be warmer with highs nearing 50 degrees for Monday and Tuesday.
