Shoppers across Long Island rushed their local stores and shopping malls Wednesday to return all those unwanted holiday gifts.
At the Roosevelt Field Mall, hands were filled with bags and boxes carrying undesired gifts or those in need of exchanging.
Some were busy bringing back items like toys and electronics, but most who spoke with News 12 were returning clothing.
According to the National Retail Federation, 17 percent of consumers plan to return or exchange unwanted presents in stores this year.
Experts recommend bringing back gifts early in the morning or late in the evening, when shopping malls can be less chaotic. They also advise knowing a store's return policy, which can change and are often more lenient after the holidays.
The day also saw plenty of people taking advantage of post-Christmas discounts.
Consumer Reports has a guide for holiday gift returns this year.
