State police identified the victims killed in Sunday morning's two-car crash on the Southern State Parkway as two teens from Queens.
They say the 19 year-old driver, Jevon Lyken, hit a Jeep and flew into a tree on the right shoulder. His 18-year-old passenger, Debarpita Dey, was also killed.
Police say a Lyken was driving a 2015 Infiniti Q50 on the center lane of the parkway and was approaching Exit 35 in the Town of Babylon when it struck a 2015 Jeep Compass in the rear at around 5:40 a.m.
The impact made the Infiniti exit the roadway onto the right shoulder, where it then struck a tree.
Police say the impact also caused the Jeep to spin and strike a center concrete barrier.
The driver of the Jeep was hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The roadway was closed for hours following the incident before it reopened at around 10:35 a.m.
State police urge any witnesses or people with information to call (631) 756-3300.
